Game 32: Timberwolves 100, Jazz 98

Posted by: TACOREV on February 22nd, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

The Jazz blow an 18-point second quarter lead, and even still led by nine with under six minutes to go. They were outscored 36-21 in the 4th to lose for the fifth time in the last six games.

Luke Ridnour had 17 & 6, and hit the buzzer beater to clinch the Minnesota victory. Nikola Pekovic had 17 & 12, and J.J. Barrea led the T-Wolves with 22. The Jazz held Kevin Love to just 10 points, but he grabbed 10 boards.

Paul Millsap led all scorers, finishing with 25 & 9. Josh Howard had a nice game with 19 & 6, while Al Jefferson added in 18 & 11.

Kanter and Favors played just a combined 20 minutes.

This is one of the Jazz worst losses in a season of quite a few bad losses. They had this one for the duration of the game, only to blow it in the final minutes. They had held off Minnesota runs earlier in the game, but couldn’t do it when it mattered most.

Utah falls to 15-17, going just 3-11 on the road.

Jason should be back at least by Tuesday, so I assume he’ll go back to doing the post game threads.

    Go Jazz, please stop losing

This was the first Jazz game I didn’t watch this year. Instead I decided to watch a three hour NOVA show on whales and dolphins on PBS for some strange reason.

    Now I know why…….

As long as the jazz can play up-tempo, they can beat anybody … but crunch time is never up-tempo. Same result as previous game against SAS.

How many missed lay-ups ? way too many.

How many free-throws ? How many 3 pt attempt ? This team is way too much predictable.

At least Devin Harris and Josh Howard had decent games, so if we follow the lines of Gerald … go trade’em now that their stock rises.

    Henri, thanks.

I didn’t like the last 8 minutes or so, because of one fact. Almost every play was going to Al, and what would happen, he would get triple-teamed almost every time. He missed several shots, that I would have rather someone else take. Even if they missed those shots, it would have been better than the ones he was taking.

Let the young guys play for 2 reasons. 1, I would rather those young guys play because the vets don’t develop anymore. 2, If we lose, like we are doing, those young guys still develop and we get a good pick to go along with it. The vets playing hasn’t been translating to wins.

Hayward had 7 seven shots in 30 minutes and touched the ball once in the last 5 minutes … CJ had practically the same number of shots (6) in nearly half GH’s minutes (18), while Howard had twice GH’s shot (15) in the same minutes (31) !! Big Al and Paul had a combined 37 shots … nearly half of the overall tema’s attempt !

Now just combine the shot attempt by the 2 rookies and the 2 sophomores on this Utah team (sorry J. Evans …): 16 for a grand total of 85. Not enough playing time … but after all not enough touches. By the way, it’s not a surprise if Hayward has his confidence away at certain times … if his own teammates pass him the ball one time every 3 minutes or so.

You can’t win like that. Opponents know they just have to pack the paint in crunch time. This team is too predictable.

I am sorry but this team needs (another) big shake if it aims at being competitive, just to be back on the playof picture.

I dont know if anyone else say this but there were 2 key possesions that I felt lost the game for us and it involved the season long struggles of Jefferson and Milsap to REBOUND the damn ball. (little frustration)

Two or Three times on long three’s misses in crunch time it seemed that sota was able to collect the offensive board and twice get a quick putback. With those 2 quick scores thats almost an instant 8 point swing because you miss the opportunities to attempt a basket yourself on the other end, potentially a fast break on those long rebounds.

Corbin not playing atleast Kanter or Favors for some late defensive possesions kills us. I for one would not complain if in late game situations we took Jefferson out and put Kanter in to rebound the ball and hopefully get a put back or two, maybe that way were are not so painfully obvious in our late game offense as well.

    Harpring is always saying:

‘Bad teams find ways to lose games’.

Is that the Jazz? Because this should have been a win, and I can think of 4-5 other games that should have been a win, but somehow we found a way to lose.

Why CJ “dumb bastard” Miles still on court damn?
