Game 41: Jazz 109, Cavaliers 98
Posted by: TACOREV on January 19th, 2013
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. The Jazz pull away in the second half to cruise past the Cavs, claiming their third-straight win and seventh in their last nine games.
Foye led the Jazz with 20 points, Favors finished with 19 & 8, and Jefferson and Kanter each added 14.
Cleveland was led by Dion Waiters’ 23 and Kyrie Irvings’ 18 & 9. Former Jazzman C.J. Miles scored 12 points, going 1-for-6 from 3-point range.
This was a game the Jazz should have won, and they are now 2-0 on this 20-game stint in which they play 15 of 20 at home.
They also improve to 22-19 as we arrive at the season’s half way point.
Next up is a visit from the Wizards next Wednesday.

Favors played great! It was good to see him have such a good game on both ends. As soon as he stepped on the floor, his presence was felt. He does need a new move tho, he tried the spin 3 possessions in a row in the 1st haha
I’ll be honest, i was most impressed by the play of Tinsley tonight. His defense on Irving, the buckets he scored, and decisions he mad with ball… All impressive tonight. I know Irving went for 18&9, but i definitely felt he was held in check while Tinsley was on him.
Good game, it was cleaveland, but we pretty much handled them tonight as an aspiring good team should.
I like how favors gets to the line a lot. That will add 6-7 points to his scoring average in the future.
We have been playing better but am I going to say we have made a leap? Not yet.. Why you may ask? Well because here are the teams we have beaten this month. Minnesota, Phoenix, Dallas, Charlotte, Detroit, Miami, Clevaland
So out of those only one of them is really a good win. And how good is it really? They have one guy that is good on their roster who is 6′10. We have 4 so should we win that game on our home floor? I would say so. Take out the fact it is the Heat and say it is Team A without knowing who it is and you would say ya we should beat the crap out of that team! Am I saying it was not a good win? No it is cause they are the defending champs but we still should have won.
I am having a hard time looking though the schedule and finding a win that we have that you can say that is a good win. Most are we should have won that we did..
I guess the San Antonio game fits that bill. That is it.
This past week I have been going over several rosters. I see several players that maybe should have been better. I think that maybe their coaches should have seen them in a different light. But as we see that is kind of like life in general. Every one wants different players, coaches and the like. But one thing for sure is that these are all professional teams that can all win on any given night. So a win is a win. In a few years no one will really give a flying rats .. We are now a month away from the trade deadline. Let’s see what happens.
Dallan i agree with you on about 98% of stuff you say, but i disagree with you about you stance on the Heat game. Your contradicting yourself. Your first paragragh you are implying that we aren’t a good team due to the teams we have beaten. And then say, because the heat have one guy thats 6′10 we should beat the defending champs!?!
Sure we have 3 guys 6′10, not 4 like you said, and they have one. They also have one guy named Lebron, we don’t have one of those.
The Heat game was a great win. Give them the full credit they deserve for that win.
I agree we aren’t a good team yet… that is why i said an aspiring good team. haha
@Steve I understand. My point is that if you said Team A has 4 big men and Team B has 1 big man you would say we have a size advantage. Especially at home. I do think it is a good win but it is also a win we should have. At home and there weakness is our strength. That is all I am saying. If we were an NCAA team we would only have a couple of those signature wins. We would be on the bubble and not make the tourney.
I just am afraid I guess management is going to be like we are winning so why change anything. Well because we are beating crap teams. Not teams we are going to face in the playoffs. That is all I am saying. Still mediocre. We are just winning games we should.
At the same time, if i said we play Team C which has 6 guys 6′10 or taller, how do you think we would do? Trouble for us maybe??? Nope. We’ve beat them 15 of the last 17 times.
Yes our strength is their weakness, but their strength is also our weakness. We can’t defend the perimeter for s***, teams tend to have great shooting nights against all the time. And thats what the Heat are, spread you Dwade and Lebron attack and dish at will.
Like i said, this is the only beef i’ve had with anything you’ve said. Cuz i agree completely with that fear of this team winning and the FO being ok with it. If a deal is not made soon, our only hope is to keep winning while Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, and Kanter/Burks earn player of the game honors. That seems to be the only way they are going to get minutes, is by outplaying whoever is in front of them.
Here are the simple facts:
Jazz have 22 wins
Jazz have 12 wins against West teams
Jazz have 10 wins against East teams
Of the 12 wins against West teams
Jazz have 2 wins against teams with winning records and 1 win against 500 team
Of the 10 East wins
Jazz have 2 wins against teams with winning records
Of the 2 wins against West teams with winning records
Jazz both wins were at home
Jazz have ZERO wins against West teams with winning records on the road!! (Think playoffs guys and girls)
Jazz only have 4 wins against teams with winning records out of 22 wins (only road win @Nets right before AJ was fire). Halfway through season and Jazz have not beat a West team with a winning record on road…..pretty sure Jazz won’t have homecourt in first, so if Jazz make no moves to improve, we are looking at 1st round exit….
Nothing’s happening. No trades forthcoming. If the Jazz can make the playoffs this year at the expense of their future, they’ll gladly do it.
Once the Jazz sniff the playoffs, they will make them, even if only as the 8th seed. This is more value to our organization than draft picks, because as long as we can sign mediocre veteran free agents and make the playoffs, Greg Miller and KOC are happy.
