Hayward dropped 29 points on 9-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-5 from downtown, with six assists. Millsap scored 21 with seven boards & four dimes, while Favors added 10 & 11. Jefferson struggled but still contributed 15 & 8. The Jazz led for most of the second half, and stayed ahead with strong defense and solid ball movement on the offensive end.
Carroll had a fantastic game too, with 10 points and seven rebounds. Most of what he did doesn’t show up on the stat sheet though. Just pure hustle from this kid, and he makes smart decisions (very opposite from that other guy that was starting at the wing position).
Dragic led the Rockets with 19 and seven assists. He practically living at the line, where he hit 13-of-14. Lowry also shot a bunch of free throws, making 8-of-9 on his way to 15 points and five assists.
The Jazz step a half game ahead of Pheonix for 9th place, just a game behind Denver for 8th (who we hold the tie-breaker over). Denver is spanking Minnesota, however, so it will be a game and a half before the night is through.
We now hold the tie-breaker over both Houston and Denver, the 7th and 8th place teams, sitting a game and a half behind both teams. This was a huge win to keep us alive in the playoff race.
Next up is New Orleans in the Big Easy Friday, followed by a trip to Memphis Saturday.
