Game 60: Bucks 109, Jazz 108 (OT)

Ugh.

The Jazz fall in a heartbreaker in Milwaukee (30-28, 16-14 home).

Monta Ellis went off for 34 points while Brandon Jennings posted 20 & 17, with J.J. Reddick scoring 17 for the Bucks.

Favors put in 23 & 15, Millsap with 22 & 14, Burks scored 19, and Kanter contributed 18 & 10. Hayward added 13/7/5 while Carroll also scored 13.

Marvin, Watson, and Foye played a combined 52 minutes and did absolutely nothing. The three starters went 0-for-15 for ZERO points.

This one’s on Corbin. He left those three unproductive starters in the game way too long in the third until we had fallen behind by as many as 13 after leading comfortably for most of the first half.

Then there’s Derrick Favors, who was dominating inside… then sits on the bench for the ENTIRE fourth and overtime?? You’ve got to be kidding me. Maybe Corbin didn’t want another young guy posting a 20/20 game to make his Veteran-Loving philosophy look bad.

So the Jazz spent all of the fourth quarter clawing their way back, once Corbin finally put the good players back in the game. They reclaimed the lead in the final minutes until Jennings hit a huge 3 to tie the game and send it into OT.

Then we’re down 3 late in the OT, and Corbin puts Foye back in?? Foye’s good when he’s on, but he was clearly NOT on tonight! Why would you put him back in the game and expect him to make that shot?? Carroll was money tonight, I would much rather he take that shot, but he’s the one Corbin pulled in favor of Foye.

Bleh.

Now at 32-28, we’ve fallen to 8th in the West, just two games ahead of the Hated Lakers.

Game two of the four-game road swing is Wednesday at Cleveland (20-40).

Jazz player of the game: Derrick Favors

I think its fair to point out that if Millsap doesnt missa FT late in regulation or the refs call the obvious Sanders body check on Hayward the Jazz win the game, but its almost impossible to win when your starting gaurd lineup puts up a zip, nada, zilch.

I think Corbin couldnt pull Millsap or Kanter in the 4th to sub in Favors because that lineup brought the Jazz back. How ever in the OT period, the Jazz should have exploited Favors size more.

Also I couldnt agree more about the game tying three at the end. They should have found Carrol or Burks to take the shot as they had both been hitting consitantly throughout the game.

Tough loss, my gut feeling has been for some time that Utah will fall out of the playoffs, with our up coming schedule and road woes, its not looking any more promising.

How is this game gonna affect Favors confidence, his mentality? Is he gonna play super aggressive and dominate to spite Corbin or will his confidence be shot back down just when he was starting to play with a lot of it? I almost hope that he gets the starters spot next year, dominates at an all star level, and then gives the Jazz his big middle finger and goes and signs with Portland or Denver for and equal $$ contract. He deserves better than to be benched for the 4th and overtime in a career game for him. FO Corbin!

    #FireCorbinnow!

  3. I don’t fault Corbin for staying with the lineup that got them back in the game in the fourth quarter(though Favors had played very well), but I do fault him for continuing to start the game with Watson instead of Burks, Foye instead of Hayward, and Carroll instead of Marvin.

Still, Millsap hits that second free throw with the Jazz holding a 99-96 lead, and the Jazz win the game. Really tough loss.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with the rotation when Mo comes back. I’m hoping Burks gets the backup point guard minutes.

    #FireCorbin&KOC

No way they let Favors get a 20/20 the game after Kanter got a 20/20!! How stupid would they all look for past decisions (or indecisions) AND WORST yet how bad would they look if the two players that just dropped 20/20 in last two games….start against the Cavs on the bench??!! And get crap minutes?!!

I don’t see us making the playoffs: Al comes back (Kanter and Favors back to the phantom zone), Mo comes back (Burks back to the PZ), Watson will still get PT—he is beyond useless.

This game broke my spirit. Until Corbin is fired and KOC retires, I don’t see a bright future. Well, I hop Favors agent at least don’t try and get Favors to the Lakers. Go to the Bulls Favors.

  5. William Chan says:

As long as Corbin is here.

Best case: 7th or 8th playoff seed and get kicked out first round

Worst case: not making the playoff at all and wasting fans time and destorying our hope, benching good players, listening to Corbin stupid apologise and wait for another year for the same thing to happen again.

  6. RiverJ says:

I just cant imagine whats going on inside of Derricks head right about now. And no one can tell me that if Al was in Favors’ shoes that Corbin would have stuck with the lineup that got them back in the game, and not played Al the 4th and OT. No freaking way that happens.

  7. Patrick says:

Notice how everyone looks at one free throw for the loss of the game? How about Caroll, could have been a double overtime. Lets take another look.

Marvin Williams 0-5 for 15 mins starter
Randy Foye 0-6 for 20 mins starter
    Watson 0-4 starter
Hayward 3 – 16 in 38 mins Did great with other things.

Ok, your right, millsap missed the game winning bucket. Sheesh, come on. Personally I think Millsap makes the other players on the floor better.

Brandon Jennings haters, lol. Ok, dont run after him this off season. 20 points 17 asts, and the 3 pointer that kept them into the game so that they could win it. No we dont want that player growing with our core. Better resign Watson and Tinsley.

  8. Jaron says:

I haven’t posted here forever, although im always reading, but basketball rage has overcome me. I have never been a Corbin fan, but I’m with you RiverJ, how in the blue hell does Favors put up those numbers and then sit for 17 straight minutes?!!! Beyond the pale, beyond stupidity. Talk about slaughtering a man’s mojo, you could see it in his eyes, Favors could not believe he didn’t get back in the game. I was furious from 7 mins left in the 4th, win or lose you ride the young phenom blowing up the stat sheet against a premier defender, had we won I still would’ve been blown away, but we lose because our coach is nothing more than a horse’s ass, I’m done with you Corbin, may you never coach a game in this league again, if only…

  9. Omar says:

@Jaron, those were SEASON HIGHS for Favors?! How the hell do you put up season highs in 3 quarters, and not play the rest of the game??!! B.S. Even if Corbin need to go big and play Kanter, Favors, Sap, Hayward, and Burks, and force JJ to guard Sap in the post and play a zone.

  10. Jaron says:

I’ve given up trying to figure out a justification for Corbin and his incompetence, there is none, flat out mentally incompetent, basketball incompetent, I have never EVER seen a man have a career night in 2 1/2 quarters (he sat most of the 2nd too which already had me angry) and then inexplicably sit on the bench, I kept wondering if he was hurt, that is the ONLY way Corbin would have made sense tonight, I wish I could watch Corbin get fired every day for the rest of the year

  11. Colten Davis says:

Hayward with the missed lay up and Kanter with the missed 3 foot jumper for the win. What in Gods name was Burks thinking giving Jennings space with the Bucks down 3? It reminded me of when Green gave Mo that space when he made that 3 to win it over the Spurs. The only difference is Pops S#it a brick and let Green have it, Corbin… “good try”.

    There is no God.

  12. Can’t everyone see our glaring weakness? Our bigs had great numbers but their guard line owned our guards as usual

  13. Omar says:

the bright side might be that since Parker is hurt, Lakers might catch OKC in the first round. So there is less of a chance Lakers go on monster run…..that’s about it.

  14. Guido says:

    0 points 3 starters??? they deserves a painful night…
Foye is a joke player who plays in a non 3 point team ever thats all.

  15. KCJones says:

Hey at least we’ll have a .1 % chance to win a lottery pick.

Favors got screwed this game. I really hate Ty. Hayward sometimes tries to do too much. Our guard line sucks. Watson blows more than Tinsley, but they’re both third PGs. Foye is the perimeter version of Al. One dimensional shooter who’s worthless when his shot isn’t falling. Millsap had to shoulder too much of the load. He’s never been that main guy. Marvin…I kept excusing him but I cant anymore. He is sucking.

Our future guys are really impressing though. C4 plus Evans, Carrol..C6?

  16. Millslapped says:

Kanter and Favors continue to beast! If only we had a competent back court. Also Hayward seems to play better at home. I could care less about the loss really, I have given up on the season… as long as I see the same names appearing in the starting lineup without any changes this team isn’t going anywhere any time soon. It’s pretty sad I get more excited about Kanter and Favors getting minutes than us actually winning.

  17. disco says:

Millsap had a decent game but I wish people on here would pull their head out of their arses about his ability. He tries hard but he is an average player whose D is atrocious at times.

  18. ThanhVII says:

Another game where little guys ran our team off their floor. Post those midgets up!!!

  19. L.K.Anderson says:

I think Foye has done good this year. That said I think he is worn out from too many minutes being a starter.I cheered when Marvin was brought in. I thought Al was keeping down his touches. He has played so good at times. Watson must have a minute guarentee in his contract. These three should be on the end of the bench. When Mo comes back start Burks and Carroll as well. Kanter/Favors needs way more time. But my bet Ty will go with the same ol same ol.

  20. Steven says:

This is one game where I really needed Tacorev’s synopsis, still recovering from surgery I couldn’t hobble to the living room tv to watch it so was keeping up with the score and the stats from my phone. Having not seen the game, for the life of me I can’t understand why Favors didn’t come out to play after it looked like he was going all out to beat Kanter’s Friday stats. I thought maybe he got himself injured (that is always Corbin’s excuse when he doesn’t have the balls to say it straight, until the player then denies it, think Tinsley and Bell), or fouled out. Favors career high night was not an issue with the team letting the Bucks get a jump on them in the 3rd. Foye, Marvin and Watson need to get at least 3 buckets between them in all the minutes that they played. 6 points would have meant the the Bucks would never have got that big lead, and if the show no signs of scoring Corbin needs to pull them off sooner.

It doesn’t surprise me in the least that Corbin would pull the hot hand off and leave the players that have no scoring threat on. He’s been doing that all season long.

I sometimes find it hard to believe he is getting paid by the Jazz and not the opposition. He has a tendency to make decisions that is hard to justify. Taking the hot hand off and leaving players on to find the rhythm has cost the Jazz more games than the effort of the players deserves.

This was a game that was very winnable and a game that possibly had to be won if the Jazz wanted to make the playoffs. Certainly I had it as one of 11 games the Jazz should look to win if they want to have any chance of making the off season.
