Call me crazy but I can see the Jazz moving Millsap to Portland for Wesley Matthews… What’s your opinion on this???

Its only marginally possible. If we did, we better send someone with him, Bell or Miles so we can snag Babbitt and Batum also.

Would be almost happier sending him to Cleveland to snag JJ Hickson and Ramon Sessions. Then looking to Free agency for our other need.

  2. Andrew says:

Considering they just traded for Wallace, i’m not sure they’re interested in Millsap still.
Plus considering Brandon Roy’s status I doubt they trade someone like Mathews who filled in for Roy very well.

I’d love to bring Mathews back but with Gordon Hayward making a very good transition to SG and Burks getting draft I think we’ll be good without him.

  3. Jimmy says:

I’m liking Sap for Hickson and Sessions. It gives us a good young backup PG and a backup PF, saves us some money, and maybe we could score a second round pick…plus we’ve still got cap room to sign a wing/shooter.

  4. Nick says:

I’m sorry but I don’t exactly see the point of trading Millsap for J.J. Hickson. Isn’t the reason behind getting rid of Millsap to clear up playing time for Favors and Kanter? Why would we bring another big in that will need minutes? Millsap is also a better player than Hickson so that move would make no sense to me whatsoever.

  5. Patrick says:

Nick, There is a big Difference between Hickson and Millsap. The trade is mostly to give us Sessions, since we need a solid backup at the PG in case something happens to Harris. Millsap is a starter, he will eat up Favors and Kanters minutes for certain.

Hickson is a defensive PF, who has been coming off the bench. So if he doesnt beat out our other bigs, he will come off the bench and be happy to join the crowd and be on a winning team. It is also a move to keep us stocked up on big men for the just in case scenerio that we continue to become injury prone.

We just watched 2 bigs walk away with Fes and Elson. If we traded Millsap that would be 3 bigs gone. We Brought in Kanter, Hickson would only be the second big being brought back. So we are still down one big from last season..

PF would look like Favors/Hickson/Okur. Center would look like Al/Kanter/Okur. If the trade were to go though. Hickson would be like an insurance card, in case things didnt work out, and keep us getting something back for our Millsap investment. So really its not a trade from Sap to Hickson, its a trade to get both Sessions and Hickson.. Gives sap a sure starting job for the future too.

  6. Henri says:

By no way the Jazz should consider trading Millsap, especially in a hurry.

First, Kanter and Favors are still developping bigs, they will not fill the entire minutes at the PF and C alongside with Al. The Jazz indeed needs Millsap’s minutes at the PF, in particular because of his shooting qualities.

Second, Millsap understands that his future is at the 3, and he is going to work at it extensively.

My guess is that Millsap is going to split his minutes between th 4 and the 3, and ends 100% at the 3 in two years, like AK did. If he fails, we will see.

We have enough question marks on the team with the rooks and sophs development (actually some may completely fail !), to get rid of a model team player like Millsap. Rebuilding stops when the new building is stable. Millsap is part of stability.

The real trading pieces are Bell, Miles, Okur (because of contract). What you can get for these remains unclear.

I am on Nick and Henri’s side. Right now and probably into the next couple years Millsap is our best player. You put him on the court and he produces. He’s efficient (53% from the field last year) and can create his own shot. Why do you trade that for two backups?

Yes, Favors needs minutes to develop. But I think the Jazz plan is to play Millsap at the three when matchups allow. This will give Favors more minutes at PF.

So Patrick, if you really want to help improve the team, you usually want to be the team trading multiple players for one player, not the other way around. Miles, Bell and Okur’s expiring for a great wing, for instance.

  8. Marty says:

It would be awesome if KOC could trade CJ, Raja & Memo for something of value.

However, their trade value at this point is probably a bottle of Gatorade & a player with a bad contract–not exactly what we need!

Millsap is probably the odd man out, as he actually has trade value to help fill a couple of the holes we need plugged.

  9. Adam says:

It’s possible, Portland tried to get Millsap once before. I would love to have Matthews back, but where would he fit in? He’s a SG and we have Hayward, Burks, and Bell we have to work into the lineup. Unless he’ll start at SF, I don’t see why we want to trade for him.

  10. L.K.Anderson says:

I din’t think Elson and Fess just walked away. I think the door way left wide open.
I would agree with KC,Nick, Henri. We have some kids that need to develope and not just thrown in the starting lineup. Corbin has already said that the best players will play. So no one has a shoe in to start or get minutes.
Nothing new on picking up CJ option yet. They are either not going to or making him sweat till the last minute. I will say that with all these trade proposals I am glad KOC is in charge..

  11. Adam says:

Millsap is a starter… Not for our team, but he deserves a starter back. Guys like Trevor Ariza or Danny Granger are on teams looking to bring back new blood and would love to join our team. They score, rebound, and are SFs. Millsap and another piece could get us Granger I believe, but to get Ariza we’d need another player from the Hornets. Ariza is also very defensive, not a bad idea!

  12. Patrick says:

Idealistically we would trade Okur, Miles, and Bell for a great player. Lets look at that though, 17.8 mill and a lump of junk. Who are you going to get? Maybe we could trade them off indivitually, but all together, it isnt happening.

That kind of contract sank us once before or have you forgotten? Most teams dont have that kind of room, and the few who do have the players your looking at, but they are not getting rid of their franchise players for that lot. Maybe if Okur could have played out the end of last season it could have worked.

As far as trades go, I am only trying to fill holes or gaps on our team. One player good player and a couple of scraps for a couple that could fit in well. It makes sense to trade a player who will be surplus in a couple yrs. Guess we will see in time though.

We have an opportunity to become a much better team in a few short yrs. It wont happen if we are bringing back the junk, so we can ease the young guys into the roles. If you do ease them in, by the time they are ready to go, then you need to get more new guys to replace the junk you brought back. Thats a never ending process.

OKC, threw their guys in, and they took off swimming. They are where we should be in a yr or two, except we have a much better squad. Lets finish filling it out and get them growing together. If it means we pile someone with Milsap so we can land another solid player or two, then it only makes sense.

But as we all know, its not the only way to do things. There are many different routes to get to the same destination. I hope we choose the best one to get us there as fast and painless as possible. Either way, I dont see Millsap being a long term solution, unless we use him to fill our holes for the long term.. It sounds funny, but its probably in his best interest too. Love that guy, and want the best for him. Not to reward him by being stingy with him and letting him eventually drown on the bench..

  13. L.K.Anderson says:

@Adam: That is because YOUR team is the Heat remember??

  14. KCJones says:

I’d be OK trading one of our bigs for a proven 20ppg wing. I don’t think we will get the same production (yet) on offense from Favors or Kanter as we do from Millsap. There’s not a lot of wing options that fit that, aren’t overpaid, and fit in the Jazz culture, and who are willing to trade ( but For Granger I’d say OK). Which is why I think the trade should happen at a point in the future when you have developed the young bigs and proven they are ready to step up. I am much more attracted to re-signing AK because you wouldn’t have to give up anything, and he’s good. Let’s just hope another team doesn’t overpay him again and that he re-signs for a reasonable amount. Add Watson or Weaver or a FA backup PG and that’s the league minimum of 13 players on the roster, and it’s deep and has a good mix of talented Vets and big upside rookies.

  15. Adam says:

@L.K. Umm, I like the Heat, but I’m not sure what that has to do with any of my posts? The Jazz are my favorite team ever, but I like other teams too, not nearly as much though.
