The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.So check this out. I like David Locke. Sometimes I think he is too positive when it comes to Big Al and Earl Watson. He loves them both for some strange reason Watson is just awful all around. Jefferson is good on offense but defense is just awful. But Start watching at the 18 minute mark and he has some GREAT stats gathered about the Jazz defense and how bad it is with Jefferson on the floor.

It’s interesting to see just how bad the pairing of Al and Favors is. That pair is not the future of our team. If we keep Al we cannot keep Favors. Favors must start and cannot start alongside Al. Unless I’m wrong he said they are -7 on the floor together. I feel like this season is a wash. We need to begin to see if we want to keep Jefferson or Millsap. We need one of them to stay on the team. I say keep Sap. He only scores a little less than Jefferson, and Hayward plays much better without Jefferson on the floor to make up for the lack of amazing offense.

Brandon – I agree with much of what your saying, but what also needs to be taken into account, is who the other three starter are at the small forward, shooting guard, and point guard spots, when Al and Derrick are on the floor. Foye is a below average defender. Watson (and/or Tinsley) can’t keep anyone in front of them. Marvin is a decent defender, but often is dead weight on the floor. Also, Corbin doesn’t always put his players in the best positions to succeed. I really think a lineup of Al, Derrick, Carroll, Hayward, and Mo Williams would be pretty effective.
Well last night over and over I saw Favors rotate to the penetrating opponent to protect the rim, only for Al to be standing there with his finger up his nose watching from the paint instead of rotating to Favors guy. Seriously, I should have made a season-long reel of Jefferson watching dunks on him from the paint, because there’s about one highlight every game.
The last half of the 4th quarter last night was classic. Even the junior jazz kids were saying “all they’re doing is running the pick & roll every time”. Yes, yes they were….and it worked….EVERY TIME!
I think Al’s autobiography should be titled DEATH BY PICK & ROLL.
I moaned as soon as Al went back in at the 8 minute mark, and the Hawks promptly scored 5 straight points to end that Jazz run. The Jazz did make one final run, but it ended when Al couldn’t finish at the rim & got blocked. How much proof does Ty need that Al is NOT a big-time player?
Marty…we don’t have a “big time” player on the roster right now. The “Core 4″ is still developing, and Al is our only half-way consistent offensive option at the moment. At least Jefferson is keeping us in games with his offense and rebounding. Marvin isn’t earning his keep, and neither are Tinsley or Watson. Foye doesn’t bring much to the table on nights when his shot isn’t going down. Al is a terrible defensive liability (as is an undersized Millsap), but he is only one of many culprits on this roster (including the coach, and front office).
The only reason this season is a wash is because we have a stupid coach. I agree that we’ve wasted this season just like last season. We’ll continue to waste more and more just like we’ve done. But of course there will still be loud fans who say that we should be impressed by our barely above .500 record. I’m sorry, but I kind of expected more out of this season.
If the front office doesn’t care to put in the work to make us better, then I am not going to lose my head over losses. Until they decide to put this “plan” that they speak of into motion, we are what we saw last night.
wow! Locke is just starting to realize Al is really bad on defense? The common sense eye test could of told you that! Now when is he going to realize that Al is the common denominator of the offense sets being bad? Iso-Al the conquer ball is not good. ya he’ll get his points on tons of attempts but the offense sinks. Run and gun up tempo offense with p&r is my dream….without Al
Until Al signs another contract with another team,I won’t get my hopes up! I can see the Jazz maxing this dude out!! Self-inflicted bad contract!
Can we trade Bynum and Doug Collins for Big Awful-Lazy and Corbin???!
Neither Sap or Al should be re-signed
@ Jason, I hope Mo gets back soon this year so we can see how much he helps. Tinsley and Watson are just awful. Hopefully neither see the floor when Mo comes back.
Our coach needs to hold Jefferson more accountable on defense. He needs to take him out when he begins to become a defensive liability.
LAST YEAR everyone seemed so excited to get into the play-offs to get experience and then were upset that we got knocked out in 4. We LOST good draft picks. This year will be the same if we don’t free up our cap space for letting Al and Sap walk. If we get a free agent that is of high quality we will have to pay big money with a veteran contract. I would much rather miss the play-offs this year and maybe next and get some good draft pick and resign our core4. We would have to have some patience for them to develop and I know that that is not a popular thing. Just my view for whatever it is worth.
Another thought, I see articles like bringing back Korver. To me this and all similar article are either madness or just not having any ideas about which to write. We need to move on. Get some GOOD draft picks and get rid of dead weight and save our money.
