Feel Free to Bash.

Posted by: Tony M. on May 19th, 2011

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

So uh…. I’ve been reading a lot about J. Fredette in the last couple of hours and I have to say, I don’t dislike him anymore.

According to Jimmer and a couple other people, he’s not bad at defense and the reason he didn’t play defense is because BYU didn’t want him to. They didn’t want him in foul trouble… Which I guess is understandable.

He’s also been working on his lateral quickness. Which in turn, should help him in better developing his defensive game.

Also, Kanter wants to play for the Wizards with Wall. We could use this to our advantage. Here’s my idea; We trade our 3rd pick to the Wizards and get Nick Young. He’s a 6′7 SG that averaged 17.4 PPG last season. Then with our 6th pick we take Jimmer Fredette. I have a really good feeling that his stock is going to go up tomorrow. After that we take Chris Singleton with our 12th pick.

Feel free to bash this idea. I would have yesterday. Also, here’s a pretty good read. http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=19844

  1. NO.Thats a bad idea. Jimmer will not be a top ten pick.
    Besides Kanter might fall down to the 6th pick anyway.

  2. JRN5150 says:

    We don’t have the 6 now. It became the 3. We only have 3 and 12

    @JRN5150
    Lol, you kidding? Did you not read the post?

  4. @ JRN5150 I was referring to the Wizards 6th pick.

  5. That only means something if the Wizards feel the same way he does. If so, We could draft Kanter and trade him for JaVale McGee!
    Maybe even swap Miles for Nick Young the process.

  6. The only reason we would get Kanter and then trade him away later to the Wizards is if we got John Wall in return, because IMO He’s the only real talent on that team.

    @Kory
    You’re right.
    Maybe we could trade the pick to the Raptors and get either Andrea Bargnani (C) or DeMar DeRozan (SG.) Perhaps throw in Fesenko and Miles and get both. Then, that would get us a Center, a SG, a backup/future PG (Jimmer) and a SF (Singleton) coming out of the draft.

  8. Woody Palmer says:

    easy on the trades guys not many teams want to give away their best player for unproven players in a “weak” draft.

  9. Tony M. says:

    Raptors would. They’re so silly. ^_^

  10. Adam says:

    A more logical trade if we want to swap spots is the Raptors/Wizards giving us the 5th/6th pick with an additional second round pick or two. Not one of their better players to just jump up a couple spots in the draft.

    With that said, I’m not going to bash your idea because I’m not opposed to drafting Jimmer. However, I would hold up on drafting him with our first selection and draft him with our second selection, because there is a really good chance he’d be there

  11. @ Brandon, that would defeat the purpose of Kanter in Washington.

    At least we’ve seen McGee play. He showcased his athletic ability in the dunk contest during All Star break

  12. @ Kory, yes you are right.

    But Thats all McGee can do Dunk ( on smaller players) when matched up with more talented and taller C’s he attempts Shots that Fesenko would try instead of dunking it down.

  13. Tony M. says:

    @Adam
    We could do that.

    Hmm… How about this? We trade our 3rd pick to Washington, get Nick Young and their 18th pick. We would then have three picks. We take Jonas Valanciunas at 6, Jimmer Fredette at 12, and Chris Singleton at 18 or if he’s taken, Tyler Honeycutt.

  14. SmoothJazz says:

    Yeah. Too many teams have been burned with the less athletic, undersized, college scorer in the past to take Fredette higher than our twelfth pick. Trading down a couple of spots if we don’t take Knight or Kanter is not a bad idea but who knows what kind of value another team would place on that either. Whenever I’m looking for some kind of crazy deal the Timberwolves, Wizards, Clippers, and Raptors would definitely be on my speed dial as an NBA GM though :)

  15. L.K.Anderson says:

    @Tony: Hmm…How about this? Let KOC figure it out??

  16. If I’m the Wiz, I use my (6) pick to get Vesely, my (18) pick to get Faried and my (34) pick to get Lighty…screw what Kanter wants lol

  17. Patrick says:

    You guys do know that Nick Young is a free agent right? Just sign him.. Makes no sense to trade for a guy who might just up and leave the following season. Thats how you end up with nothing..

  18. James Seaman says:

    Look, I rooted openly for Jimmer this year, the only BYU guy I’ve ever cheered for. I like him. A lot. But it’s preposterous to suggest that he simply didn’t play defense because BYU told him not to. Jimmer Fredette is a competitor and, like any true competitor, he would do anything to win. And that means playing defense. So it’s not reasonable to suggest that he would choose not to play D so he wouldn’t be in foul trouble or so that it wouldn’t negatively impact his offense. Jimmer is a basketball player, and he understands the game is played both ways, so he knows defense is just as important to winning as offense. He’s not going to purposely slack off. The reality is, the guy has physical limitations (size and speed) that kept him from being a good defender. That doesn’t mean he can’t be a good pro, but it’s ridiculous to say that Jimmer’s lack of defense was because he was simply hiding that part of his game. Furthermore, if he really didn’t play defense because he (and his coaches) didn’t want to risk foul trouble, that would actually be the biggest indictment of all because it would suggest he couldn’t defend over the course of a game without getting in foul trouble. And I don’t care what any of his coaches say now…of course they may say things to help his draft stock now…they weren’t instructing him not to play D during the season, and it’s actually disrespectful to the guy’s heart to suggest he gave anything less than 100% of his ability to get BYU to their first Sweet 16 in two decades this year.

  19. Jimmy says:

    Dude Jimmer not only sucks at defense, he has NO interest in playing it. And he’s clueless at defense. He was all year. He was all FOUR years. You think they were telling him as a sophomore to suck at defense to save his energy. You could see him at the combine sucking. No Jimmer!!

  20. KCJones says:

    Any post that includes ‘I read on Bleacher Report…’ instantly loses credibility. You know it’s just a bunch of 12 year olds making stuff up right? There are so many opinions out there right now. I heard one scout who was much higher on Kemba Walker than Knight. Another thought highly of Jimmer and then someone else didn’t. One thought Irving was great and Derrick Williams was overrated and wouldn’t translate. Perhaps French Dude has it right and we should go with Kanter. Man who knows. Good luck KOC.

  21. French Dude says:

    @KC, i like when you begin a sentence by “French Dude has it right………..”

  22. SmoothJazz says:

    @KCJones. All you have to do to know how rediculous the “Bleacher Report” is is to look at any mock draft they put out there. Not only do they often not seem to understand how the lottery works, but you can watch rumors move through their selections anytime they come up. There is no analysis or experience behind almost anything they post. I’m going to “leak” to them that several GM’s have me at the top of their “Big Board” and watch them “break the news.” :)

  23. KCJones says:

    I read on the Bleacher Report that the Cavs and Minnesota were interested in a player named just ‘Kyle’ and that he came out of nowhere and is quickly moving up the draft boards.
