I still think #6 is to early to take Jimmer, I think all the “Sacto will draft Jimmer at #7″ is hyped up way too much (like Williams’ game). That and I really doubt Vesley slips past #10.
Nice take though
I don’t see the Jazz trading down just to draft Jimmer. If they want him that bad and think he’d be a better fit than Knight or Walker than they’ll take him at 3.
I also don’t see Minni taking Williams. They have absolutely no need for a SF/PF and do need a Center. Not all teams draft on Best Player Available.
I do Think Singleton would be a great Defensive force and would eliminate the need to re-sign AK but his Offensive side is what worries me and would bring the need to keep AK.
@Andrew
Why would Jazz take Jimmer at 3 when they can trade down and get an extra pick. That’s the whole point.
Ya they would. Minnesota’s horrible at drafting.
No, If the Jazz want Jimmer they will definately trade down(and I pray to god they do) because they will be able to. I think Something that could work though is try offering Sacto our 12# and Devin Harris for their #7 (and another player) and take Knight and Jimmer, an absolute dream come true of a draft for me. I’ll keep beating this dead horse until draft day but taking the chance of NOT taking the local BYU,AP player of the year who says he wants to play here and having him succeed is just suicide when we have the guarantee of him coming here, a high % of long term commitment and a very good chance of contributing a great deal to this team, even more than people realize. I think his potential is far greater than people say or think it is. How red would our faces be if “Utah let Jimmer the former AP player of the year, BYU scoring prodigy champ slip” and he turns out to be an allstar? I just don’t see the logic in that risk. The Bulls had a 1% chance at their pick and nabed thier hometown hero an alot of his play comes from the love of his team. We’ll get the same thing from The Jimmer. Old School superstars are dead. Jimmer will be that kid. We won’t have to bite our fingernails everytime it comes to him signing a contract extension, he won’t be easily corrupted by the lifestyle. He has extreme talent combined with a good head on his shoulders and he just wants to play ball….and he wants to play for us.
I like Singleton alot too, he is a great defender but we have some good developing scorers and can aquire a great one in this draft and build more in the future. If AK ends up leaving he could be a good fit if Vesely is gone.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading and never registered or commented on stuff like this before… but I gotta do it on this draft. I like the Jimmer, but wasting our 3rd pick on him is hilarious. People who recommend that should be dragged into the street and shot. We can get him at 12 so relax people. I think we should get Kanter. What’s the worst case scenario? We can another big (remember how the Lakers KILLED us with their size in the playoffs not too long ago). Devin Harris is really not that bad. Probably a starter on at least half the teams in the league. We can get the Jimmer at 12 for scoring needs. What is wrong with this scenerio? Why entertain any dumb trades to move up/down just to guarentee the Jimmer when reality shows us he WILL fall down to 12 for us to grab.
Vesely will be a top six pick.
Also, I believe the Jazz would draft Burks or Vesely before Fredette.
If this site is any indication, there will be a bunch of very angry, and disappointed Jazz fans if they don’t end up with Fredette on draft night…LOL.
I hate Vesely he SUCKS!!! Say no to contract restricted Europeans!! I would take Jimmer over him any day.
I got it I got it. To make the Jimmer fans happy, and to keep us from blowing a pick we do this. Trade down one position with Mini and we get Sessions and the 4th. Cavs of course get Irving and Williams and Minni gets Kanter. We then trade Sessions and Miles to Toronto for their pick. They get the PG they been looking for, and the SF they are in need of for one pick. Then you can use that pick to get your precisous Fredette, and Singleton at 12th. Wahoooo. Call me the trade artist. Just got us Knight and Singleton, then added Fredette for free, and got Knight for a half mill less.. Ok, not for free, it cost us the inconsistant Miles, big deal.
1. Cavs – Irving 2. Minni – Kanter 3. Cavs – Williams 4. Utah – Knight 5. Utah – Fredette 6. wizards – Vesely 7. Kings – Leonard 8. Pistons – Biyombo 9. Bobcats – Valanciunas 10. Bucks – Burks 11. Warriors – K. Thompson 12. Utah – Singleton
Eh, the heck with that, why waste the 5th pick. Lets draft 4th Knight, 5th Burks, 6th Singleton.. Or 4th Knight, 5th Leonard, 12th Hamilton. Or 4th Knight, 5th Burks, 12th Brooks. hahahaha. this is so much fun. Can anyone else add to this?
The best scenario to get Jimmer is still Kanter or Williams at #3 and Jimmer at #12. If we were going to make a move to get Jimmer and really make sure nobody else gets him, I see trading the #12 pick and CJ to someone in the 6-8 range. This would most assuredly bring an offseason trade by the Jazz to get another SG/SF.
But ultimately my opinion is stay where we are with the #3 and #12 and if Jimmer is gone by #12 then that’s it. No regrets on anything, he just wasn’t available. We’ll get another good player.
Yep worst possible draft. GET OVER IT WE ARE NOT TRADING DOWN. We will stay at 3 and get kanter or knight and our team would be way better off that way then trading down to take jimmer at 6 and who ever the crap at 18
@eagleraven
you shouldn’t have gone through the trouble of registering
I can’t believe people are just like “Well, hurp if the AP player of the year, multiple Si cover,local hometown prodigy slips through our fingers, durp oh well,” then sit back as he becomes a solid to all star player. What a stupid attitude to have.
(Adam just liked JAZZ KING’s comment)
I love it. I realistically think Jimmer will go 6-10. I really dont see him dropping to 12. I havent heard a bad thing about him since the combine. He looked awesome in the Kings workout and I see him going top 10 for sure. How depressing would it be if we traded down with Sacramento and Jimmer and Knight got drafted top 5. I’d kill myself.
@Colten
O_o
I’d be willing to take a bet Jimmer goes top 10.
@jason, if that happens, im not gonna get on here ever again, especially if he turns out really good. we would never here the end of that. EVER.
im not against drafting him, just dont draft him with the 3. trade down or with the 12 if hes available. if hes not, then i dont give a crap. good draft if we do, or dont, as long as we dont get Kanter, Valanciunas, Motiejunas, or whatever, or Vesely, or any other euros.
just get knight or williams if hes available
@TonyM: I will agree for the Jazz to trade it’s #3 Pick to Washington’s #6 & 18. But, here are my picks:
#6 – Jimmer Fredette (future PG);
#12 – Klay Thompson(SG), has Rick Hamilton/Reggie Miller moves;
#18 – Tobias Harris(SF), has Derrick Williams numbers.
I think the jazz will stand still and hope Derrick Williams or Irving fall to them.
I like biyombo for the twelve if he is there. I know we need shooting but we have no defensive specialists. The guy gets boards and blocks shots and has a serious motor.
Its not like we need to get a grip of players from this draft we need high quality great players that could one day be a superstar. Everyone is acting like we are the freak’ in cavs and starting from square one we already have a really good team just need the to flight, best of the best so we can try and compete
Why is there almost no talk of Kemba Walker? Coach Corbin seems high on him, and the jazz seem to like winners like Gordon Hayward was. Altough I wouldn’t be displeased if we drafted Knight instead. If we by some miracle get Williams we might as well gamble/BLOW!!! our pick on Jimmer unless Burks is still available (maybe Klay). I feel like our 12th pick will have a hard time cracking the rotation regardless of who it is.
I coulndt agree more and if there was ever a reason to trade down to Sacto or Washingtons spot it would be to take Walker, who is far more polished than Knight and has alot of the same high character qualitites.
Ive heard that Knight refusing to participate in alot of draft workouts is actually hurting his stock as some people are taking it like he thinks hes entitled to his draft position.
No way we take Jimmer with the third as most scouts and draft analist think that taking him at 12 could be a reach.
That said I have no idea who the Jazz are really interested in with the 12th pick, alot depends on who they pick first. If its Walker or Knight, wave bye bye to Jimmer.
sorry i meant with the 6th but the same goes for the third. That would be draft suicide especially since most think he will be there at 12th. ALot of this stuff with team “loving” a player after a workout is smoke and mirrors to get another team to reach on him and get someone they really like.
I like Jimmer. If he’s available at 12 (which I don’t think he is), then I’d be just fine with drafting him, especially if we picked up Kanter or Williams at 3. But the reality is, there are a lot of good basketball players besides Jimmer. Jimmer might turn out great. But so will a lot of other players, and it’s just as likely for us to pick one of those as it is for Jimmer. Anyway, I can’t wait for June 23rd, if just to stop the incessant draft posts on this site.
I hear ya KC, i used to spend so much time surfing the net to find anything on the draft but i am close to losing my mind now. Too much guess work. What makes me laugh are the conflicting reports that come from the different “sources”.
Sources told someone that told me that the jazz love Knight, and the Jazz love Walker because he is more experienced, and the jazz will take kanter because they are going to trade Big Al or Paul, or that the jazz are looking to trade down up or out.
so what should we believe? I just say lets get a move on and get this draft over with.
Regardless of who you target at #6, that is a lopsided trade.
For #3 you have to be getting more out of it than #18. Maybe a second as well. The problem with that is now Utah has 6 guys that are rookies or sophomore players. That is just too many.
IMO it is probably better to package #3 or #12 with Memo or Bell to get a proven productive guy, or just stay put and hope we hit on at least one of them.
Sorry, the Jazz would be crazy to make a trade like this. I think Jimmer is a great kid but he’s not a great fit for the Utah Jazz. This local icon/tweener is a luxury pick… we don’t have any of them in this draft. Our needs are simply too great. Just my take.
