Jazz Opener Commentary

Posted by: Stephen Loveless on December 27th, 2011

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Just sat down to watch the opener.  There were a couple of negatives right off the bat: first had to watch the Celtics and Heat finish out there game in disappointing fashion; when the Jazz game did come on a saw a missed layup from a dark jersey and a wide open three from a yellow one; and, last but not least, I heard Reggie Miller’s voice.

There were also some positives though.  Defense seems to be up overall, Al sent Gasol to the floor instead of letting him have the dunk, and we are at least keeping up with an exhausted Laker team.

Commercial:  I need to take this minute to express my sadness at Memo’s departure.  Not a bad move, but a sad one.  I’ll really miss the Money Man but I wish him well in New Jersey.  Do I wish him well enough to offset the ill will I hold for Deron Williams?  Not sure.

Coach looks good tonight.  I really miss Jerry in his grey pinstripe with pink tie.

The long break of the lockout really shows in the free throws.  Seems like the vast majority of players have lost a little “touch”.  It’s the little things that get left out over a summer.  The nuances that make basketball such a wonderful sport.

Speaking of little things, Millsap and Kanter keep jumping early on rebounds and there’s no second jump.  Kanter looks terrible tonight.  He’s sluggish, timid, and not getting up for blocks, shots, or boards.  But he’s only 19 and it’s only his first game.  I’ll try to lighten up.  I do, however, have very high expectations of him.

Memo’s departure is going to be most felt in his mentoring of the young bigs.  Especially with Kanter, a fellow-countryman.  I think Favors will move along quickly.  The more aggressive a rookie is the quicker he’ll get through the awkward phase.  Same thing goes for Burks.  He just keeps attacking.

Commercial:  Anybody know where I can get a pocket schedule?  They used to be on the counter at every gas station.  I haven’t seen one in years.  Maybe that’s just because debit cards have eliminated the need to actually go inside….

Is it just me or do seem to have trouble with Steve Blake?  Steve Blake!  Come on!  Why is he getting every open shot?

Belief, confidence, desire.  None of those qualities exist on the Jazz team for more than a few minutes at a time.  You can’t win this way.  No spark, no hustle, no drive.  I miss Brewer’s tenacity.  Millsap has lost it since taking over as a starter.  Maybe he should back up Favors until he decides he wants it again.

The Jazz are finally getting a few shots to go after a long dry spell.  I don’t even want to guess at how many layups we’ve missed in the last ten minutes.  Jefferson needs to relax and use his feet.  He has great foot work but he’s not using it.

Half-time and I am calling it quits.  I’ll still be watching but my laptop is dying and I’m just too lazy to plug it in.  I was rambling anyway….

1)What the hell are waiting to kick CJ s black ass out of town dear god, HE SUCKS yestarday today and tomorrow!
2)How in god s name u can make a basket in more than 5 minutes?? is Hornacek in some place?

    extras:
1)Nice to see Devin playing like a real pg
2)We need more run plays definetly.

  2. From what I’ve noticed so far is we are just running down the court without a controlled offense and taking careless shots. We can’t allow LA to keep it fast paced so our lack of experience causes us to get sloppy. We have also missed way to many shots in the paint. Slow the hell down guys!!!

  3. Just witnessed the 4th and 1 we’ve handed to LA. Seriously guys?

  4. disco says:

Its like watching an NBA team playing a college team

  5. Julie says:

seriously, the jazz look pathetic. why the hell doesn’t corbin having these guys running the court. the lakers are suppose to be tired, apparently. doesn’t look like it to me.

  6. jazzman says:

Glad to see our 3 point shooting and defense is right where it left off last year. Hayward, Bell, CJ you should all be very ashamed of yourselves…..

  7. Julie says:

settlling for jumpshots. bah hum bug

  8. jazzman says:

And what happened to our bigs that were supposed to dominate?

  9. KCJones says:

Why aren’t we running? pushing the pace? our offense is so stagnant. Everyone just standing around with the ball above their head while one guy makes a cut…wow this is bad.

  10. Guido says:

Could be see this more frustaiting?

  11. Colten Davis says:

This just in… the Jazz are sucking dick.

  12. Eduardo says:

3:40 am here at the end of 3rd, and it looks like I’m way more awake than 90% of the team. What an awful game…

  13. KCJones says:

We have such a glut of awesome big men you will tremble before our frontcourt skill!….oh wait no one can even hit a 2-foot shot.

    Jazz shooting 28%. Probably won’t get to 65 points…

  14. Allan says:

I don’t think anybody on the Jazz know how to shoot. If this is how it is going to be all season, I don’t think we are going to win one game. We might get lucky and have a “Hot” night, but it is hard to see at this point…

Sooner or later we might have to consider losing by only single digits a victory for us…

    Man this is horrible…

But I can honestly say that I saw this coming. Either we would come out pushing the ball and build a decent lead on a tired Laker team and probably pull out a win against them, or totally stink it up and lose big because of intimidation factors and what not… I think we know what happened…

  15. Colten Davis says:

The most pathetic NBA performance I’ve ever seen. Thank God there was an Early Oop.

  16. Jeff says:

Dismal play. Can we expect this team to put up many 90+ point nights this season? They’ll need to figure out how; Cj isn’t going to cut it as the team’s scorer.

  17. drew says:

worst basketball i have ever watched in my life. no joke. i would rather watch DIII NCAAW than watch a performance like that again. O.o
