Possible trade

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

I personally like Big Al, and I think he is a great player. He’s got weaknesses sure, but he is still a great player. I admit though that sometimes losing a good player can improve a team, for example the Rockets and McGrady. That may be the case with Big Al and the Jazz, I really don’t know. The way I see it, without him the Jazz would probably be a little better on defense and moving the ball. They do lose offense though. Here is a possible trade that I just want to throw out. It would be a three way trade between Utah, Orlando, and Phoenix.

Utah trades: Al and Raja and receives: Hedo Turkoglu and Marcin Gortat

Orlando trades: Hedo Turkoglu and receives: Brad Miller and Raja Bell

Phoenix trades: Brad Miller and Marcin Gortat and receives: Al Jefferson

There are obviously problems with this but the money side works. First, while this makes the Jazz roster even more crowded, it does addresses both of the issues of defense and ball movement. Gortat is a good defensive center and Turkoglu is a good shooter and excellent passer. This also takes care of the Raja issue. Orlando would presumably go for this because they wouldn’t have to pay 12 million for Turkoglu in 2013-2014. Phoenix may not go for this, but if they felt that Jefferson would stay and they wanted the offense, there aren’t many better in that category than Big Al, they might agree. I doubt this trade would go down, but there are definitely some things to like about it.

Interesting……..I would be cool with getting Afflalo somehow from Orlando instead of Turkoglu. But then that would jack up the money side of it. What would be amazing would be to turn Raja and Big Al into a lottery pick. Maybe we could get the Bobcats 1st Round pick next season unprotected. Or maybe the Magic.

  2. If we took on Turkoglu we would have to get a 1st back from them. One of theirs not one that they just got trading with the other people. I think they would do it just to get out of Turkoglu. They are trying to clear cap and they want it gone now.

I like accumulating picks, best way to go. Even if they are future down the road picks, that fine as well. Look at how we flip NYs pick yeeaarrs later into Hayward!

We need to have a long distance view. Jazz will never be able to do quick fix like Heat, Knicks, Brooklyn, Lakers, etc. The reason Jazz didnt tank and fail like a ton of sorry teams is cuz of the huge boost of high picks.

If Al is as good as people claim, then you should be sick cuz Al will walk for nothing at seasons end. Dennis Lindsey can really set the Jazz up for the next 5 years, plus cap space to absorb Gasol type player/contract.

The flip side to Al walking though, is if he is as bad as you say he is, no one will want him. NO ONE. So then he would be willing to resign with us for less similar to Josh Howard wanting to this offseason. The problem, is I don’t think he’s as bad as some say. So teams would be interested in picking him up.

However, if we were somehow able to package him with Raja the Dirtbag I would be ecstatic. If we JUST trade Al, then I want something decent in return. Like a pick that is first round next draft. But if we can dump Raja on someone with Al, then I really don’t care what we get. It would just be nice to get rid of Bell.

  5. @Kevn I would agree we need to get a good pick from it but I would personally rather have a pick in two or three years. Not next year. Next years draft is downright horrible and we are all ready going to have two next year. Unless GS for some reason tanks again

I don’t see the Rockets being a great team any time soon. They have a ton of young players, last I checked, I think one of their 20 players under contract are over 30 years old!!! The Rockets future picks and young assets looks pretty great to me.

I totally see the Bulls throwing the year away. I keep reading Rose might not even play, no sense bringing him back in like March to make a playoff push. So I can see the Bulls dumping Boozer’s 15M. Chicago can attract superstars, so I think they care more about free cap room than future picks. Jazz can facilitate a three team trade (Jazz, Bulls, 3rd); Jazz send expiring contracts Bell and Al, Bulls send Boozer and an unprotected future 1st, 3rd team maybe some young players, picks, TE.

I am sure a borderline playoff team would want Boozer. If Kanter has another spectacular game, and either Burks or Carroll does excellent as well, I think Al might be moving that $20,000 bed elsewhere.
