Coach Corbin stuns me again with this http://www.1320kfan.com/upload/audFiles/2-25-13CorbinNotOnPlusMinus.mp3

If he truly believes what he said, the Jazz FO without  a doubt needs to fire him. The jazz will never get the most out of this team with Corbin as the head coach

Sadly I’m convinced that the Jazz won’t make a coaching change as results haven’t been bad enough. I think his lineups, in game decisions or lack off merit a change but the players fight and professionalism is keeping results respectable. I think he gets out coached regularly, almost nightly but the team rescue him time and time again.

Let’s not get on the firing Corbin band wagon just yet.If we have some second half of the season meltdown and miss the playoffs then yes fire Corbin. Right now we are the 7th seed and a phew games behind golden state who has not been playing that well as of late so don’t give up just yet

I was waiting for the reporter to say ” basically what the +\- stat means is your starters are getting their a**es kicked. Has anyone else noticed that Gordon and favors are playing with annoyed looks on their faces. Like Really? The starters dug us a hole again now we gotta try and get out of it.

  4. Uottakno says:

Right now I think there is a recipe for a melt down. I’m sure some of the guys feel like whatever they do they will never get a chance to start. So there has to be a natural let down.

Hahaha funny clip. I’m not defending Ty here, because I have a lot of issues with his view on things, but I do want to say that plus-minus isn’t a stat that I put much stock into. There are 10 guys on the court, plus referees, and you’re trying to attach the outcome of all the variability that happens during a time frame to ONE guy and assign him a plus-minus stat. It’s fairly ridiculous.

The argument with this Jazz team is that the bench is so near in talent level to the starters, in comparison to other teams whose talent is concentrated in their starters with a weaker bench, that plus-minus stats will always be skewed against our starters and look good for our bench players. I think that’s probably true.

BUT, here’s the thing. We really don’t KNOW what our bench guys can do as starters. We have no idea! Why? Because Corbin won’t ever give them a shot at it. But we DO know what our current starters give us, and that’s slow starts, usually falling behind, and poor play coming out of halftime.

So the argument I would make is why not FIND OUT what the bench guys can do with starter minutes? If what we have is a known, and it’s not good enough, don’t you try something else? Besides Watson in for Tinsley for hell’s sake. You think a 3rd string PG in for a 3rd string PG is going to make a difference? Maybe just MAYBE the bench would be a better starting unit than the starters are. MAYBE, just MAYBE the starters would actually do better off the bench.

Just think if we had a coach like Van Gundy or someone who didn’t see the world through veteran-colored glasses. This team could probably be something special. They would at least have the balls to find out, which I can’t say for our current FO and Head Coach.

It still amazes me that Favors has started more games for the Nets than he has the Jazz, despite spending most of his career here. Ok the Nets weren’t very good at the time he was there, but there are some matchups that Jefferson just isn’t that good. And since Jefferson has been here the Jazz have struggled to win 1st quarters with any regularity, that is a stat that is undeniable. You could put those 1st quarter losses on Jefferson lack of effort or Millsap size but either way Favors could have had a few more starts here and there just to try something different to see if Favors had what it takes to change that stat. When Favors has started in the few times Jefferson has been unavailable to play the Jazz have done well enough. As did Kanter in his one start in 2 seasons. I don’t see either Favors or Kanter yet having the offensive tools that Jefferson does, but unless Corbin gives them at least a few more opportunities to start against starting caliber players when we really need them to step up they might not be ready.

The game against the Celtics the other day was a veterans game. The Celtics veterans know what it takes to take you out of your comfort zone and scrape out a win. It was the younger players in our team that made it a game but when it came to the crunch they couldn’t quite pull out the victory because they don’t get the opportunity to contend against such wily craft on a regular enough basis.

I agree with KC it hard to see exactly what level the core four are at. They might be the players getting the team back into the game but they will often be playing much of their minutes against other bench units. Its great that they are finishing a lot more games, but we also need to see them tested at the start of games too in order for the FO to be able to rate their level and see what pieces might be needed for next year. Do we need players that compliment them or do we need players that back them up? Kanter lately seems to be learning to shoot from increasing distance and not just relying on getting scraps from underneath the basket. Favors after showing some progress on his offensive game seems to be working more on scraps again and is hurting his time on the floor by getting an increasing amount of quick fouls but he is improving his own free throw rate which is helping his overall point total at the end of each night. Ideally it would be good for their development if both Jefferson and Millsap could be allowed to run their contracts down and a cheaper backup brought in their place, but we have no idea if Favors or Kanter are ready to start because we never see them get that opportunity. Unless Corbin does the Fo a favour and starts Favors and Kanter some games between now and the end of the season FO might have no choice but to try and resign Jefferson or Millsap or both next summer. FO has provided Corbin with the tools for a variety of lineups but he has a real reluctance to use anything outside the tried and trusted. Sloan was pretty reluctant to give young players minutes, however he started an undrafted Wesley Matthews time and time again. What would Sloan have done with 2 number 3 picks, a number 9 and a 12 pick, 2 and 3 years into their careers on this roster?

  7. @KCJones, beautifully stated. We just DON’T know unless we reversed roles for a few games. I also agree that if the experiment didn’t work and we didn’t make the play-offs they would be afraid of getting the blame for that decision being the reason for failure.

  8. I’m not surprised at all. This Is classic Corbin being Clueless. His coaching decisions have been beyond bad for awhile. +/- is a telling stat, although should not be be taken too serious. But his refusal/cluelessness to change the starting line-up and things that are obviously not working are Idiotic. Thinking Watson for Tinsley was the major move? Very telling about his skills. Every Basketball fan on Earth can see its NOT working. Why Cant Corbin? Refusal to change= #firecorbinnow

  9. Omar says:

Wow. Hahaha. Corbin is almost becoming comedic! +/- is not the be all end all of stats, but when it pertains to the Jazz once is accident, twice is coincidence, thrice is a trend, 20+ time it occurs thats pretty much evidence!!!

First of all the bench players are getting better, so maybe them playing on the bench helped them get better , so all is not lost .
Second of all this bench is one of the better benches in the league , but they are not the best so to say they would be able to play against starters is ludicrous .
But I do agree that with out trying them as a unit in the starters line-up we will never know how well they can be .
I am not an apologist for Corbin or Jefferson , but I think that we need to see what happens on the second half of season to say Fire Corbin .
I do think that Jefferson might not be here next year and if we fail to make play-offs with our starters Corbin also .
That is my 2 cents worth .

Ty is not a good COACH period, he has no feel for the game. The best coaches in basketball, have a tremendous feel for the flow of the game in all areas, the tempo, what kind of game each player is having, etc. This is where TY falls way short, not every game can be won the same way, but it is a fact that every game can be lost the same way, “DEFENSIVELY!!!!!” DEFENSE is the root to being great, if you can play tenacious, tough, hard nosed defense, then you can win games in many different ways, up tempo, grinding it out down low, etc.
This is why TY struggles so bad and has NO feel for the game. TY looks like he is always trying to find line-ups on the floor that play good together on offensively, why not build line-ups and substitution patterns based on the ability of those 5 guys to match-up defensively and stop them from scoring!!!!! If you look at TY’s line-ups, the combinations have not been good on the defensive end of the floor.
Example of TY not having a clue is with Randy Foye, he has been in a shooting slump so the last couple games TY has put him on the bench, but if you really look at Randy’s game, he is also a good not great ONE-on-ONE defender and will get up into his opponent and compete. Now, there is AL, he stay’s on the floor because he has been putting up good offensive numbers, but in all reality his opponents offensive numbers have been even more impressive and because AL plays down low he has to also help with guards getting in the lane, which he intimidates NO ONE, he is a cancer to a team. He plays absolutely horrible help defense, so the net affect on the Jazz team with him in the game is a loss. It has been the same result when he was in Minnesota and Boston. Having a great defense starts with the men in the middle and I don’t think TY gets that at all.
    Out best line-up would be:
    Favors
    Milsap
    Carroll
    Foye
    Burks

with Kanter, Heyward, Marvin and right now I would say Watson as the subs.
Now if Ty would create the “TEAM” around that and let the team know that, you would see us get more consistent. You would also see some of these guys offense really start to blossom, great defense creates easy offense. Again, Ty simply has no direction for the team, when you see his face on the sideline during the games he looks lost and confused, when you see Popavich, ( Spurs ) he looks like he knows exactly what the opposition is going to do AHEAD of time, good coaches always look like they are one-step ahead of the opposition.
Until TY starts putting on the floor line-ups that are built to stop somebody, we will continue to go up and down, we will continue to lose 15-20 point leads, and continue to be a 5-8 seed in the west. This just shows you how good we could be, because of the fact that we still are always 5-8 seed with a coach who has no clear defined direction of how he builds a team or how he plays a line-up during the game.

  12. KCJones says:

Until Al’s arse gets sat on the bench for not playing defense, we’ll have an Al who doesn’t play defense. And if third season in Corbin hasn’t sat Al’s arse on the bench for not playing defense, I can only assume it’s because he doesn’t care if Al plays defense. So basically, with Corbin as coach, we’re never going to be good defensively. The end.
